Terms of Service

1. Introduction

These Terms of Service govern your use of the web application Expendist (hereinafter "the Service"), operated by: Pavel Konečný Business ID (IČO): 01824848 Registered Office: Dětenická 54/8, 197 00 Prague 19, Czech Republic Email: info@expendist.com (hereinafter "the Operator" or "we").

By signing in or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of the Service & Financial Disclaimer

  1. Purpose: Expendist is a tool for logging, splitting, and balancing shared group expenses (e.g., lunches, trips, outings) based on a rotating-payer model. The application calculates running balances and indicates who should pay next. It also includes an optional AI-driven receipt scanning feature.
  2. Not a Payment Service or Wallet: Expendist does not handle money transfers, collect deposits, custody funds, or act as an escrow agent or payment processor. All settlements and financial payments between group members take place entirely outside the application (e.g., via direct cash or bank transfer).
  3. Informational Use Only: Calculations and next-payer indicators are provided for convenience and guidance only. The Operator is not liable for interpersonal disputes regarding recorded figures.

3. User Accounts and Access

  1. Accessing the Service requires authentication via supported sign-in methods (Google OAuth, Facebook OAuth, or single-use email magic links).
  2. You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and access to your account.
  3. The Service is intended for individuals aged 15 and older.
  4. Access to groups is managed via shareable invite links. You are responsible for sharing your group invite links only with intended members.

4. Pricing & Voluntary Support ("Buy Me a Coffee")

  1. Basic use of Expendist is provided free of charge.
  2. Voluntary Support: Users have the option to support the ongoing development and operational costs of the application through voluntary tips (e.g., via a "Buy Me a Coffee" button). These contributions are strictly voluntary, do not entitle the contributor to premium features, equity, or commercial deliverables, and do not constitute a purchase agreement for paid services. Voluntary contributions are non-refundable.

5. Acceptable Use

When using the Service, you agree not to:

  • Interfere with or compromise the security, infrastructure, or availability of Expendist.
  • Use the Service for fraudulent or unlawful purposes.
  • Engage in unauthorized automated scraping or infrastructure overloading.
  • Upload illegal, abusive, or infringing material via the receipt scanning feature.

The Operator reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

6. AI Receipt Scanning

  1. The receipt scanning tool uses artificial intelligence to convert uploaded photos into itemized breakdown data.
  2. AI recognition may make mistakes. You are responsible for reviewing and confirming all recognized items, prices, and totals before finalizing an expense.
  3. The Operator bears no liability for inaccuracies resulting from unverified AI parsing.

7. Availability & Limitation of Liability

  1. The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind.
  2. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, loss of profits, or data loss arising from your use of the Service.

8. Intellectual Property

All intellectual property rights in Expendist, its codebase, interface, and branding belong to the Operator. You retain ownership of the data you enter into the application, granting the Operator a non-exclusive license solely to operate and deliver the Service.

9. Modifications to Terms

We may modify these Terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes at least 14 days in advance via the application or email. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

10. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Czech Republic. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of the Czech Republic, without prejudice to mandatory statutory consumer protection laws in the user's home country.

Consumers may also seek alternative dispute resolution through the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (www.coi.cz).
